Anecdote attributed to Librarian Larry Tarlow:
It came to Zubin Mehta's attention that the ball was taking place on Irving Berlin's 100th birthday, so he tasked Tarlow to find an arrangement of "Always" and arrange it for the orchestra. The Irving Berlin Music Company graciously obliged on such short notice, and Tarlow drew up arranged manuscripts for the orchestra, which performed it later that night towards the end of the program.
