- Stadium Concerts for the 1948 Season - Conductors include Lavalle, Monteux, Reiner, Smallens, Toscanini - Soloists include Claudio Arrau, Carol Brice, Vivian Della Chiesa, Amparo Iturbi, Jose Iturbi, William Kapell, Eva Likova, Lauritz Melchior, Mac Morgan, Erica Morini, Jan Peerce, Hazel Scott, Isaac Stern, Jennie Tourel, among others - Fritz Reiner conducts all-Wagner program, featuring soprano Rose Bampton and tenor Set Svanholm on excerpts from Lohengrin, Tristan und Isolde, and Die Walkure - Profile of Hans Schwieger, recently appointed as musical director of the Kansas City Philharmonic and guest conductor for four weeks with the NBC Symphony - Artur Rodzinski conducts all-Gershwin program, featuring soloists Todd Duncan, June McMechen, Earl Wild, and the Eva Jessye Choir - Werner Lywen to perform Violin Concerto in D Major, K. 218 and siblings Toni and Rosi Grunschlag to perform Concerto for Two Pianos in F major, K. 242 on all-Mozart program; concert postponed and later cancelled due to rain - Enrico Leide Stadium conducting debut - Alfredo Antonini directs Italian Night - Sigmund Romberg conducts his own compositions and popular works of Strauss, Lehar, Thomas, Kern and Rodgers; Romberg "steals" the show, conducting in a comedic way and clowning around - Mitropoulos conducts concert version of Puccini's Tosca, featuring Eleanor Steber in title role - Italian text and translation of a Stadium broadcast on 23 Jul 1948 - Dancers Alicia Markova and Anton Dolin appear in gala dance program at Lewisohn Stadium Note: June McMechen's name is mispelled in several advertisements as "McMechin"
