- Stadium Concerts for the 43rd Season; extended to seven weeks of concerts - Zubin Mehta's US debut and stadium debut - Pianist Ann Schein makes her New York debut at Lewisohn Stadium, Wallenstein conducting, shortly after her fifth record is released - José Greco's spanish dance company performed a set of dances to music by Torroba, conducted by Roger Machado - Stadium Concerts holds a camera contest night at Lewisohn Stadium - Queen Elisabeth of Belgium sends a commendation to Minnie Guggenheimer, applauding the United States for its exceptional participation in a music competition bearing the Queen's name; Guggenheimer had invited the Queen to attend a Stadium concert honoring winners of international music competitions, featuring pianist Malcolm Frager, violinist Stuart Canin, and soprano Sara Baum - Thomas Scherman conducts an all-Brahms program on Jul 12 and a French program on Jul 13 - Benny Goodman performs in a combined classical and jazz Stadium concert, as soloist in Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A major and as leader of his own jazz group - Alexander Smallens conducts annual Gershwin Concert on 30 Jun 1960, featuring soloists Camilla Williams and Todd Duncan who will perform excerpts of "Porgy and Bess" - Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong turns 60
