- New York Philharmonic opens 132nd season - Zubin Mehta makes his conducting debut with the orchestra - NY Philharmonic musicians go on strike. AFM pickets at Avery Fisher Hall - The musicians organize their own tour of the Iberian Peninsula under the billing "Members of the New York Philharmonic." - City Ballet goes on strike - Boston Symhpony perform the first concert of their New York season at Hunter College.
