Score is inscribed by the composer:
    "For Dimitri—
Souvenir of his marvelous first performance of this piece — in friendship —
    Samuel Barber
    Capricorn Oct '56."

Score was likely not used for the world premiere on February 2, 1956 (since the publication of this work post-date the premiere) but may have been used in subsequent performances conducted by Dimitri Mitropoulos.

Another page in the score indicates it was used in Hamburg with the NDR Orchester on May 15, 1963.

Dimitri Mitropoulos' score collection is part of James Dixon Papers at the
Rita Benton Music Library, University of Iowa.
