Correspondence between Artur Rodzinski and Bruno Zirato re: first year as Music Director and proposed changes in the orchestra: soloists; hiring of new members of the orchestra; problems with the resignation of concertmaster Mishel Piastro; issues with the Musicians' Union on hiring and contracts with new orchestra members; sudden resignation of first bassoon Benjamin Kohon to join the NBC Symphony; problems finding replacements for resigning or fired orchestra members; pension considerations; draft status of potential orchestra members; hiring of William Polisi (bassoon), Leonard Rose (cello), Michael Rosenker (violin), Joseph Singer (horn) and Harold Gomberg (oboe), the latter after being classified 4-F; contract negotiations with the Musicians' Union; problems filling bass trombone position, new Stravinsky work, ALS-Bruno Zirato (19 May 1943, 16 Aug 1943); appointment of Leonard Bernstein as Assistant Conductor; appointment of Halina Rodzinski as Secretary to the Music Director; problems arising from drafting of orchestra members; changes in contract with Rodzinski
