- Dispute between musicians and NYP management threatening Russia tour is resolved. - NYP goes on 50 concert tour of Europe and Near East, including 18 concerts in Russia, conducted by musical director Leonard Bernstein and Thomas Schippers. - Reviews of peformances by NYP under Bernstein in Hartford, Boston, Providence, Washington - Berstein plans infomal preview subscription concerts on Thursday nights. - NYP under Bernstein peform four one hour programs on CBS-TV: the final movement of Beethoven"s Symphony No. 9, Jazz in Serious Music, The Infinite Variety of Music, and Humor in Music, and wins a Peabody Award - Bernstein coducts four Young People's Concerts televised live from Carnegie Hall - Recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 performed by NYP under Bruno Walter is released. - Articles in Look and Vogue magazines about and by Bernstein illustrate his growing mass appeal
